Master's Thesis and Master's Examination

Master's Thesis

Upon successful completion, the master's thesis counts for 25 ECTS Credits and attests to the student’s ability to independently work on a chosen scientific topic in a scientifically acceptable frame with regards to content and methodology.

Students must bear in mind that:

• The workload of the master's thesis should allow the students to complete their work within half a year. 
• The topic must be chosen from one of the compulsory modules. If this is not possible, an agreement with the scientific director is necessary.

Master's Examination

Participants have to successfully complete all modules and write a master’s thesis in order to complete the program. The final examination is an oral examination held before an examination committee consisting of three examiners: the thesis supervisor, a second examiner (a lecturer from the master's program), and a chairperson (scientific director of the program). The examination consists of a defense of the master's thesis and an examination on areas related to the thesis. The examination committee awards a single grade for the defense. The master's examination counts for 2 ECTS Credits.

After successfully completing the oral public defense, graduates of the university continuing education and training program in "Risk Prevention and Disaster Management" are awarded the academic degree “Master of Science (Continuing Education)”, abbreviated as “MSc (CE)”.
