Graduation 2019
The eleventh graduation ceremony of the LL.M. Program in International Legal Studies took place at the Great Ceremony Hall of the University of Vienna on 26th September 2019. 13 students from 12 countries were conferred the LL.M. degree together with over 30 further graduates from the LL.M. Program in European and International Business Law to the music of Händel, Mozart, and Schubert.
The following day, the students celebrated their graduation again at a breakfast and, in the evening, were welcomed by a group of alumni at a restaurant famous for Austrian culinary delights.
This year‘s graduates came from the following countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Cyprus, Germany, Italy, Japan, Norway, Poland, Romania, and Serbia.
Three students excelled: William Field Papuga (Australien/Poland), Nicolas Makrides (Cyprus), and Laura Thimm Braun (Germany).
- William Field Papuga‘s thesis was supervised by Prof. Christina Binder and entitled:“The Right to Self-Determination in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples: A Common Law Perspective.”
- Nicolas Makrides’ thesis was supervised by Prof. Makane Mbengue and entitled: “The Development of Sustainable Development Principles by International Courts and Tribunals”.
- Laura Thimm Braun‘s thesis was supervised by Prof. Christina Binder and entitled:“Drone Warfare and Access to Justice – A Legal Analysis of the Status Quo and Future Perspectives”.
